Crime Scene Investigation Project
Overview of the project
Last Thursday, May 2nd, we exhibited our latest project that we worked on for more than 2 weeks and which we just finished.
Each student was paired up with another student and was assigned a crime scene. My partner and me got Crime Scene #2. We started of with a box full of skeletal remains. During our investigation, we determined the gender of the skeleton by measuring the angle of the Pelvic arch, determined the time of death based on insects we found in the box, and identified the victim using mitochondrial DNA. During the process, we also learned about and used fingerprint fuming, genomic DNA, and blood typing. Crime Scenes #1 and 2 were able to be solved, while our crime scene remains a cold case.
Most positive part of the project
For me, the most positive of this project was learning how investigators in real life use the techniques we used to identify victims, test DNA, and so on.
What would you do different?
I would like our crme scene to be able to be solved because after all the work we have done, there was no real achievement and it kind of felt like we did all the work for nothing.
